Pingoatuk Kolola (born in 1970 ) is a Canadian citizen and convicted criminal. Kolola was convicted of gunning down Nunavut RCMP constable Douglas Scott who was fatally shot in the east Arctic community of Kimmirut while responding to a drunk driving complaint. A witness stated that Scott died trying to save a child. In the courtroom, quiet cheers and weeping could be heard after the verdict had been read aloud just shortly after 1:30. Justice Robert Kilpatrick, the presiding justice, said that the verdict reflected "the quality of justice in the jurors' hearts and in their own community".〔 Andrew Mahar, defence attorney for Kolola, stated outside the courthouse that this is the saddest case he has ever worked in his entire career as a defence attorney. "A family lost a lovely young man. Another family lost their father – six kids – all for a moment of basically pointless violence," Mahar told reporters, "There's just no happy ending to this for anybody."〔 ==References==
